Day 1
Fly Nairobi to Samburu. Afternoon river drive for the arid-country specialists. Day 2: Full day in Samburu, tracking leopard along the riverine forest and the Special Five on the plains. Day 3: Transfer to a Laikipia conservancy. Afternoon walking safari on private land. Day 4: A day given to conservation up close — a rhino sanctuary and, at one site, a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees (a refuge, not a wild population, and described as such). Day 5: Continue to the Lewa landscape, a conservancy whose tourism revenue directly funds its anti-poaching and community programmes. Day 6: Drive to Meru, the remote park made famous by the Born Free lioness Elsa, and now recovered from decades of neglect. Day 7: Full day in Meru's varied country of rivers, doum palms and open savanna. Day 8: Final drive, then fly back to Nairobi.
