Country guide

Kenya

The Maasai Mara is the northern half of the same ecosystem as the Serengeti — the animals do not know there is a border. What differs is the country around it.

Scores are computed from three years of rainfall and temperature for each park, and drive times from real coordinates — the same engine behind our safari intelligence. They update themselves. Nobody types them in.

The Mara and the Serengeti are one place

The Maasai Mara is not an alternative to the Serengeti — it is its northern continuation, and the migration moves between them. The practical difference is scale and density: the Mara is far smaller, so game concentrates and is easier to find, and so do the vehicles. The Serengeti gives you space; the Mara gives you odds.

Amboseli exists for one reason

Elephants, framed against Kilimanjaro. That is the shot, and it is genuinely worth the trip — but the mountain is often in cloud, and the clearest windows are early morning and late afternoon. Anyone showing you that photo is showing you a good hour, not a typical one.

Combining Kenya and Tanzania

It is entirely doable and often excellent, but the border crossing costs you the better part of a day, and you pay park fees and often a second set of visas. Worth it on a longer trip. On a week, it eats the trip.
