Weather & Seasons

Dry vs green season, in plain terms — and which one is actually right for you.

Tanzania has two broad seasons, and neither is a bad time to visit — they're just different trips.

Dry season (June–October) means sparse vegetation and animals gathering at water sources, so wildlife is easiest to find. It's also the busiest and most expensive time, especially July–October when the Migration crosses the Mara River.

Green season (November–May) means lush scenery, newborn animals, dramatic cloudy skies, fewer other tourists, and noticeably lower prices. Rain usually comes as short overnight showers, not all-day downpours — December to February is warm and largely dry within this season.

Neither season is objectively better; dry season suits first-time visitors focused on guaranteed sightings, green season suits photographers, budget travelers, and repeat visitors.
